How Studio H Is Approaching Salon Sustainability

At Studio H, sustainability isn’t a trend — it’s a responsibility.

Behind every salon service is a system most guests never see: excess hair color, foils, gloves, hair clippings, packaging, and chemical waste. Traditionally, much of this waste ends up in landfills or waterways simply because salons haven’t had accessible, professional alternatives.

As a modern, environmentally responsible salon, we believe that’s changing — and we’re choosing to be part of that shift.

What sustainability looks like in a professional salon

Sustainability in the beauty industry isn’t about perfection. It’s about accountability.

Professional salon sustainability focuses on how waste is handled behind the scenes — not just the products on the shelf. This includes responsible management of materials generated during everyday services, such as hair color waste, foils, gloves, hair clippings, and packaging.

At Studio H, we’re beginning the process of implementing sustainable salon practices through participation in Green Circle Salons, the leading sustainability program for professional salons.

Green Circle Salons provides systems that help salons:

  • responsibly manage excess hair color and chemical waste

  • recycle foils, metals, plastics, paper, and hair

  • divert salon waste away from landfills and waterways

  • reduce the environmental impact of daily salon operations

These systems require specialized collection, processing, and recovery — and they come with real operational costs. But they also reflect the standards we believe professional salons should uphold.

Why Studio H is choosing this now

As the professional beauty industry evolves, sustainability is no longer a niche concept — it’s becoming an expectation.

For us, this decision isn’t driven by marketing language or trends. It’s about aligning our daily operations with our values:

  • transparency

  • responsibility

  • long-term thinking

We believe sustainability should live in how a salon actually operates, not just how it presents itself.

What this means for our guests

As we continue implementing professional salon sustainability practices, Studio H will be introducing a small environmental sustainability fee to support responsible waste recovery behind the scenes.

Beginning March 1, 2026, a $3 Environmental Sustainability Fee will be applied to all services. This fee helps offset the cost of professional waste recovery systems, including the responsible disposal of excess color, salon materials, and other operational waste.

This fee is not a gratuity and is not a service price increase. It reflects the real costs associated with operating an environmentally responsible salon.

Our commitment moving forward

Sustainability is not a one-time initiative — it’s an ongoing responsibility.

At Studio H, we’re committed to making thoughtful, informed decisions that support long-term hair health, professional integrity, and responsible salon operations. Much of this work happens quietly behind the scenes, but its impact matters.

We’re proud to take this step and appreciate the support of guests who value intentional beauty and professional standards.
